Dear District 5 Resident,
I am pleased to announce that my free Green Waste Disposal Program is back!
Beginning on March 28, residents of the unincorporated areas of District 5 are invited to dispose of yard trimmings and other green waste at no cost at the Ben Lomond Transfer Station. The program will run on the last Saturday of each month from March to June from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Just show up - No need to make an appointment! Not sure if you live in an unincorporated area of District 5? See below for more information.
For details on load limits, green waste size and material restrictions, check out the program website and the FAQs (English or Spanish).
If you are hauling your own green waste, be prepared to show proof of residency (such as driver’s license or utility bill) when you arrive at Ben Lomond Transfer Station.
If someone else is delivering your green waste, you’ll need to provide a signed affidavit confirming they are hauling on your behalf. A separate affidavit is required for each load. The affidavit form is available here or hard copies are available at my office at 701 Ocean Street, Room 500. Additional pick-up locations will be listed here soon.
This program is offered in collaboration with Santa Cruz County Community Development and Infrastructure and is funded with Measure K tax revenue.
I hope you will take advantage of this opportunity to reduce your wildfire risk, harden your home, and help protect your community. If you have any questions, please reach out to my office at fifth.district@santacruzcountyca.gov.
Also, consider getting involved with your local Firewise community! I will be speaking this Saturday (Feb 28) at the San Lorenzo Valley Firewise 2026 Kickoff at 5 p.m. at the Felton Community Hall. Meet your neighbors and learn how Firewise can help you in 2026.
