Supporting Community Initiative

Dear District 5 Residents,

One of the most inspiring parts of my role as your County Supervisor is seeing the ways you show up for each other and our community. Whether it's organizing around fire safety, helping a local business corridor thrive, or cleaning up litter at a local school, so much of what makes our county strong comes from people who care deeply—and take action.

My job is to make sure the County supports and clears the path for those efforts. I believe that when residents are ready to roll up their sleeves, government should be a helpful partner, not a roadblock.

As we head into spring, I want to highlight a few upcoming events that reflect that spirit of community action. I hope you'll take part in one—or more—of them and enjoy the beautiful outdoor spaces we’re lucky to call home.

Pitch In to Keep SLV Schools Litter-Free!

Saturday, May 10, 12:00 –1:30 PM
Meet in front of SLV Elementary School (7155 Highway 9, Felton)

This cleanup event is part of the countywide Pitch In Santa Cruz County campaign—and it also happens to be close to my heart. It was sparked by my 5th grade daughter Bella, who’s been frustrated by the trash she sees around her school. With some support from her teachers, the County, and a few proud parents, she’s helping lead this effort to tidy up the tri-campus area.

If you’re a parent, student, or community member who wants to support a clean and healthy school environment, we’d love to see you there. Gloves and trash bags will be provided (though you’re welcome to bring your own gloves for comfort), and everyone is welcome.

Help Build New Trails at Quail Hollow

Santa Cruz County Parks is working with community members to expand the trail network at Quail Hollow Ranch County Park into a beautiful, ecologically rich area called the Pace Family Wilderness. This new 2.5-mile addition will give hikers and nature lovers even more to explore—while protecting the sensitive sandhill habitat that makes this place so special.

Construction is expected to wrap up in 2026, but trail volunteers are needed now to help make it happen. Volunteers will receive training, gain leadership experience, and be part of a legacy that will benefit our region for generations to come.

Celebrate National Trails Day on June 7th!

National Trails Day celebrates environmental stewardship by encouraging the community to get outdoors, connect with your community, and give back to the trails you love.

This year, Santa Cruz County is happy to again support Santa Cruz Mountains Trail Stewardship on National Trails Day, this June 7th! Everyone is encouraged to visit your favorite open space, and to show your appreciation by leaving it better than you found it.

Santa Cruz Mountains Trail Stewardship is a non-profit organization that helps build and maintain trails throughout Santa Cruz County, connects trail users to open spaces through public and private volunteer work events, and hosts free classes and community events to teach outdoor enthusiasts about sustainable trail practices.
